Grandpas Temple Work

Brandon and I started our romance on our way home from our thanksgiving break. By the time christmas rolled around, we had been dating for about a month, so for most of christmas all we had were late night phone calls. Brandon would be flying out to Colorado for a cousins wedding so we planned on being apart till school started back up. Two days after christmas, Brandon gave me a call telling me that there was blizzards going on in Colorado and he would no longer be heading out and he wanted me to come visit him in Cedar City. Storms were expected to be coming so my dad said that I could go but i had to leave with in a thirty minute time period. I was not yet dressed for the day and wasnt packed, so as quickly as i could i got myself looking nice (i was meeting his parents for the first time) and my mom started to throw clothes and essentials in to my car to make out thirty minute deadline. I left the house with only seconds to spear but was off to see him. It was a five hour drive and as i arrived at his house, flakes started to fall. While i was inside meeting his family, the snow came down quickly and within an hour my car was completely covered in snow (you would never now there was a car there) and we were snowed in for a little over three days. This Christmas was special for me in many ways, Brandon and I of course wished that we could have been together but what was special for me was what the storm did in bringing me closer to the Comstock family! That was the first time that i was able to spend time with his sister and her family, Brandons parents, and the most special was Brandon grandpa Wilfred Comstock but everyone called him Bill. Grandpa Comstock was a great man. He was quiet, loved woodworking (carving), and Brandon often reminds him that he was "grandpa cookie house" because they had a cookie jar that was filled with oreos that he often ate with him. Brandons dad is convert to the gospel but Grandpa Comstock had not yet excepted the gospel. That Christmas storm he was suppose to be heading back to Mesa, Arizona the day i came but the storm snowed him in and i had the opportunity of spending a few unexpected days with him! After the storm had calmed enough for him to head out he did. Brandon and I headed back to school, became engaged, and were married on June 9, 2007. Since Grandpa Comstock was unable to come to the sealing, he was expected to be at the reception the following Saturday. Sadly, two days before he was expected to be with us for the reception, he passed away. This past week Brandon, Brandons parents, and I were able to go to the St. George Temple together and do Grandpa Comstocks temple work. It was the first time that Brandon and I have done temple work for someone that we knew personally and we were so humbled to have been able to take part in this special event. Brandons parents will be heading up to the Salt Lake City Temple (were we and and both our parents were sealed) on their 30 year anniversary to have Grandpa and Grandma Comstock sealed together. I look back now at that unusal cedar city storm, that i barely made it to, and am grateful to have been able to go down and spend a few days with Grandpa Bill Comstock.
